Storage conditions for solid fertilizer
Keep away from heat. Keep away from sources of ignition – no smoking. Protect from direct sunlight. Keep away from combustible material. Protect against contamination. Protect against moisture; (the product is hygroscopic, tends to cake). When store loose do not mix with other fertilizers. It is recommended to stor the fertilizer on pallets.
Storage conditions for liquid fertilizer solutions
Corrosive fertilizer solutions should never be stored in metal containers, nor in containers made of corrosion resistant materiales but fitted with metals accessories (fittings, valves, etc.)
Fertilizer solutions should be stored in appropriate containers. Preferably containers made of high-density polyethylene. Containers should be placed on a level and smooth surface. Containers should be closed as to avoid evaporation, but must allow for air entrance in order to avoid collapse when the solution is removed from the tank. A trench should surround the containers as to contain any spillage and avoid damage to adjoining crops, equipment and soil contamination.
Container capacity should suffice to satisfy the peak nutrient demand for two weeks.
A fertilizer solution’s storability depends both on its composition and its concentra- tion. One common limitation on the storability of fertilizer solutions is their settling-out (crystallization) at low temperatures. (Generally, when temperatures fall below 5oC). Therefore it is important to avoid carrying over those (more) concentrated solutions supplied during the summer, into the cold winter months. Alternatively these fertilizer solutions may be diluted by adding 20% water.
